The Department of Civil Aviation Engineering was originally founded in September, 1994 as Civil Aviation Engineering College (CAEC) with the approval of the Aviation Industries of China (AVIC) and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

There are 26 faculty members, including 7 professors, 5 doctor instructors and 14 associate professors and senior engineers. 93% of the faculty members are doctor or master degree holders. 16 of them have the experience of taking professional technical training programs abroad given by Boeing in USA and Lufthansa in Germany.

The department offers bachelor’s degree in three majors:  flight vehicle design engineering, electronic Information engineering, electrical engineering and automation.

The department offers master’s degree in four disciplines: means of transport operational engineering, airworthiness technology and management, science of material, communication and information system. The department offers doctor’s degree in the first two disciplines.

There are two labs: the integrated test, fault simulation & diagnosis lab, the corrosion and protection lab. And there are three research organizations: institute of airborne system airworthiness and maintenance, corrosion and protection center, civil aircraft maintenance engineering research center.

The department consistently focuses on the targets of building the up-to-date disciplines, managing the state-of-art environment for its education of students, educating high quality students and aiming at perfect performance.

YZ-02 intelligent hydraulic transmission experiment platform

YZ-02 intelligent hydraulic transmission experimental platform consists of the experimental operation platform, electrical control platform, computer tables, data collection system and simulation of control system. It has strong function for data collection and simulation. The design of experimental platform can not only meet the requirements of students experimental basis, extended function can also meet the requirements of teaching and scientific research, and is very suitable for the student, the teacher, the hydraulic experts, engineers engaged in the work of teaching and scientific research.

Ultrasonic C scan Epoch 1000i

The device mainly used for structural static damage detection and research and teaching tasks. It has a detection and tracking, data recording, defect imaging display and other functions. It can directly give weld grading, DAC curve and C scanning image.

FENSAP-ICE flight icing calculation software

FENSAP-ICE flight icing calculation software is dedicated to Canadian NTI company R & D. The software specialized computing while flying the aircraft icing conditions. In order to verify the safety of flight aircraft icing time, provide the technical basis for the anti-icing system of aircraft.

Reliability and maintainability and supportability engineering software

The software is able to predict the reliability of distribution, OPSIM reliability block diagram and system optimization and simulation, reliability and maintainability prediction, FMEA, FTA, ETA analysis. It can output reporting for related standards and data analysis.

Corrosion Test Equipments: including stress corrosion, salt spray corrosion, cyclic immersion corrosion and oxidization test, and corrosion fatigue equipments, etc.

Mechatronic fault diagnosis system

Mechatronic fault diagnosis system can simulate rotor faults, and carry out fault feature extraction and intelligent diagnosis.

Blade damage dynamic identification system

Blade damage dynamic identification system can test blade crack, blade fracture and rotor imbalance faults, and reveal the multi-fault evolution process from the health condition to the multi-fault condition.

Hydraulic non-intrusive diagnosis system

Hydraulic non-intrusive diagnosis system can measure the pipe pressure from the surface, and diagnose the hydraulic system health condition.

Aircraft flight and system simulation platform

The platform can simulate the process of flying and cockpit/airborne system functions through modeling of the airplane, including central maintenance system, flight management system, navigation system, etc. Parameters of aircraft systems can be obtained and failure can be injected to study the performance of various systems.

Main research results

1. Airworthiness technology for civil aircraft

Landing gear active control

The technology of Active control of airplane is that all kinds of new methods of technology of Active control being developed in recently years. It has been widely used in military and civil aircrafts, which improved the property of aircrafts. It discussed the fundamental theory of a control system of an active-landing front gear of one plane. It introduced the course of drop test of an active-landing gear concretely. At last, it derived a conclusion through the deep analysis of the contrast between the result of the drop test and passive control landing gear’s.

Numerical simulation of the aircraft wing icing

The NACA0015 airfoil leading-edge ice was studied. Aerodynamic characteristics and ice prevention measure was studied by theoretical analysis and numerical method.

2. Aircraft structure corrosion control and surface protection

Aircraft Structure Corrosion Control and Surface Protection

Behavior, mechanism and failure analysis of corrosion, wear and fatigue for aircraft materials and structure have been systematically investigated. The control and surface protection new methods including vacuum surface modification, plasma surface modification and electrochemical surface modification technique have been established.

3. Mechatronic system fault diagnosis and health monitoring

Aircraft fault diagnosis

Aiming at aircraft fault diagnosis, a novel method called improved EEMD with multiwavelet packet is proposed. The application to a blade rotor aircraft experimental setup fault diagnosis shows that the proposed method can well reveal fault characteristics hidden in the vibration signal and performs well for aircraft fault diagnosis.

Aircraft Landing Gear Damage Identification

An improved particle filter method is proposed for damage identification of the aircraft landing gear. The experimental results and their analysis confirm preliminarily that the proposed method outperforms the traditional method.

4. Design, simulation & automatic test for electronic and electrical systems

Integrated automatic test platform based on VXI Bus

Based on VXI bus and advanced adapter, this platform is a new generation airborne integrated automatic test system for the whole radar system and LRUs. The modular structure provides flexibility, scalability and versatility.

5. Aircraft virtual maintenance

Prognostics and health management for airborne systems

The features of the new generation integrated avionics system are analyzed. Based on the key technologies of PHM, such as diagnosis, prognosis, information fusion, artificial intelligence, etc, the structure of PHM system is designed.

Research and simulation of airborne maintenance system

Research is carried out to study the key technologies of central maintenance system. According to the fault simulation information of airborne member systems, model based and logic equations based fault diagnosis method of central maintenance system are studied and simulation is performed.
